Jeremy Cay, The Hammocks, & Cowpens
Edisto Island communities in close proximity to the beach include Jeremy Cay, Cowpens, and The Hammocks. These quiet, private, gated communities each offer varying unique views that include expansive marsh views, creek side water frontage, sandy beachfronts, and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Jeremy Cay
Jeremy Cay is a private gated community with many beautiful homes reached via Legare Road and then a causeway. A secluded 2.5 mile private beach offers beach-combing for shells, fossils, and whatever else the waves bring in. As a private beach, the Jeremy Cay beach is unique in that it does allow for golf cart usage on the beach and is the only beach on the island allowing that.
Homeowners and their renters have direct beach access from beachfront homes as well as beach access from other homes via charming shell sand roads, ideal for biking, walking and jogging, or golf carts. The walk to the beach is generally quite short, allowing most homeowners to reach the beach with just a few minutes of walking. For those that enjoy long walks on the beach, it's even possible to walk to the front beach of Edisto from Jeremy Cay when the tide is low.
Homes in Jeremy Cay provide a unique variety of views, with some offering a beautiful trifecta of marsh views, creek views, and ocean views. The homeowner's association at Jeremy Cay utilizes the HOA fees for maintenance of areas of the neighborhood like the causeway, shared roads, and other common areas, and even employs a full-time caretaker. For those looking for a quiet beach front neighborhood on Edisto, Jeremy Cay may well be what you are looking for.

Cowpens
Adjacent to Jeremy Cay is the gated neighborhood of Cowpens, so named because legend has it that it served as cattle grounds during the 1800s.
Many Cowpens homeowners enjoy docks with creek frontage as well as great views of the ocean. While homeowners on Cowpens are allowed to access the Jeremy Cay beach through a reciprocal agreement, renters in Cowpens do not have beach access.
Cowpens is a smaller community than Jeremy Cay and is accessed in a similar manner from Lagare Road and then via a dirt road through the marsh.

The Hammocks
The gated entrance to The Hammocks is tucked away off of Highway 174, the main thoroughfare on Edisto Island, just after you pass the Edisto Island Post Office when heading towards the front beach. Known for its incredible views across expansive marsh to the ocean, The Hammocks offers the unique location of being creek front with docks reached via long boardwalks and a direct ocean view. Just imagine kayaking or canoeing from your dock to the beach--you can do it all at The Hammocks.
